Churchill's words...

On the grounds of the old Bethlehem Mental
Hospital stands the present day Imperial War Museum. In the Cockney dialect,
the hospital was called "Bedlam." Hence the modern day usage of the word.

Muslim and
other protestors pass through Picadilly on the way to picket Buckingham
Palace against the impending (and inevitable) war with Iraq. Has anyone told
these people that the Queen doesn't really run the government and make decisions?

On the site of the WWII RAF base at Bradwell
Bay, a clever homeowner has turned the erstwhile typical RAF control tower
into a home.
|
Another view of the "tower home."

In beautiful, quaint St. Lawrence Bay in Essex, visitors can still see
the sea wall and bunkers built to fight off a Nazi invasion.
|
More of "Fortress England."

The De Haviland Mosquito memorial at RAF
Bradwell.
|
Near Bradwell and St. Lawrence Bay stands
the oldest church building in England. It was built on the site of a Roman
fort by the Saxons in 654 AD.
|
Would this little medieval church have survived
a Nazi invasion? It had been destroyed and rebuilt many times before.
|
The church's interior. Sunday services
are still held here.

The author with some members of the Cornish
family (L-R: Tony, Millie the dog, Simon, Tessa, me.) Youngest son Simon
is a pilot with Cathay Pacific Air Lines. In 1978, the author's family hosted
the Cornishes second eldest son, Christian, now a Squadron Leader in the
RAF, for the International Air Cadet Exchange. The friendship has thrived
over 24 years. I am proud to say that I have family in England.
